Inspired by the California Art Club 115th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, noted art historian Jean Stern gave a fully illustrated presentation, packed with images of beautiful paintings, about the history – and the personalities! – who have shaped this art club for more than a century. Where most art organizations in the United States limited their membership to men only, the California Art Club was open to all artists, men and women, painters and sculptors, from the time of its founding in 1909. He discussed selected examples of works by the membership from the earliest years of this annual exhibition.
