Pastel Society of the West Coast: 99 Voices in Pastel
August 23, 2025 – November 29, 2025
Curated by Pastel Society of the West Coast
Although pastels resemble sticks of chalk, they are actually pure pigment, producing some of the most vibrant and enduring colors in fine art – in a storied art tradition that stretches back to the Renaissance. Founded in 1984 by Margot Schulzke with the encouragement of fellow artist Albert Handell, the Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC) has grown to become the second-largest pastel society in the United States, with nearly 700 members.
The organization’s 99 Voices in Pastel exhibition, juried by internationally recognized artist Colette Odya Smith, will feature 99 outstanding pastel paintings that showcase the versatility and expressive range of the medium. From bold contemporary work to delicate realism, the exhibition reflects PSWC’s mission to educate, inspire and elevate the pastel arts.
