The steel girders that support the our unique “Floating Rectangle” have gone up on the Hilbert Museum construction site!
This will be the huge open-topped structure over the main courtyard that visually unifies the two buildings. This west-facing façade will carry the 40-foot-long, 16-foot-high glass mosaic by Millard Sheets. It needs this strong steel skeleton to effectively bear the weight of all that glass and matrix.
This is a major construction benchmark — the two buildings are now linked, and the full design is really beginning to take shape now.
