Visual Arts: ‘Otherworldly: Science Fiction Art from the Hilbert Collection’
“This out-of-this-world exhibition will explore California’s role in imagining the future through science fiction in animation, illustration and entertainment art. Highlights will include concept art by Eyvind Earle for Disney’s ‘Man in Space,’ ‘Star Wars’ drawings by Robert Bailey, animation cels from ‘The Jetsons’ and the 1960s ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ animated series, along with paintings and illustrations inspired by space exploration and technological innovation. Curated by Mary Platt, the director of the museum, ‘Otherworldly’ will celebrate the artists whose imaginations helped shape popular visions of tomorrow.”
